Modern Regional Report

Write for us

Modern Regional Report welcomes pitches that make a regional pattern easier to see, test a familiar explanation or give readers a fresh way to understand how places connect.

What we welcome

Pitch original, accessible work about landscapes, settlement patterns, routes, boundaries or place names. Strong proposals start with a precise question, explain why it matters to a general reader and identify the examples or sources that would support the piece. Comparative angles are welcome when the comparison is fair and clearly bounded.

What makes a useful pitch

Send a working title, a short summary, the main point you hope to establish and a note on the material you would use. Flag uncertainties and avoid claims about a whole region that depend on a single anecdote. We cannot promise acceptance, a publication date or payment terms through a pitch alone.

How to send it

Submit your proposal through the Contact page and choose the editorial question option. Please do not send a complete unsolicited article unless requested. Include enough information to assess the idea, but avoid sharing confidential or sensitive material.

Our point of view

A map is a beginning, not an explanation.

Regional character emerges from land, settlement and connection. We look for the distinctions that hold up, and question the tidy stories that do not.
